A storm whipped through these parts today. Large gusts of wind and rain left behind sloppy puddles, mushy azaelas, and one restless toddler.
A perfect day to sip on some tea, listen to some acoustic, play “kitchen” with my little miss, and blow rasberries with my little bear.
While these days as a young mother are often long, sometimes lonely, and routine, I know they are producing a great harvest. I love watching my babies explore, learn, grow, and giggle. I love this season, hard as it may sometimes be.
You see, I know that my April showers will bring May flowers. The drip drop of today will bring forth something magnificent and stunning that points to the Creator God.
As I drove in the car today with rain pounding on my windshield and my hair sloppily pulled back in a wet bun on the top of my head (too busy to dry it these days), I reminded myself of this eternal truth…
“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.”
2 Cor. 4:17
Boring, mundane days are a necessary part of life… for if we were never bored, excitement would never thrill the heart.
I have to admit that I have let boredom creep in and stay for far too long, becoming to me an unwelcome companion. Days have melted together and accumulated as some distant vague memory. So today I am taking my jaded life by the horns. It’s is time to begin something anew… some journey of the mind, heart, and soul!
I miss baking… really… I do!
I miss learning… complex mathematical arguments… I really do! My dulled mind aches for exercise.
I miss making friends and being a friend. Writing notes, bearing burdens. I miss them. All of them.
I miss traveling, reading, learning a foreign language, playing my cello.
I miss pushing my body to its limits. Sweat, blood, tears. I miss it all, all of it. For these things that once defined me have been lost.
Time to reclaim the years that the locusts have eaten, and get “unbored,.”
My sister Ashley is expecting her third little girl next month… Jade is her name! I see her already, hair dark, voice sweet, and skin soft. If she is anything like her sisters she will be all of these…. uniquely in her own way.
My mom hired Women of Whimsey, a local catering and event planning company here in North Florida to completely facilitate the event. Needless to say… we were blown away!
Soft hues of purples, silvery grey, billowy whites were the theme. Chalk painted boards, babies breath… oh the babies breath! Antique crystal, personalized paper goods… Ashley (and Jade) were in heaven!
If I could wish one thing for Jade it would be this…
“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
We can’t wait to meet you sweet girl!
Mornings with Kinsley… After she eats her yogurt, strawberries, Mila, and honey, I see a burst of fresh energy!
She runs from here to there… collapsing into her plush sherpa toddler chair. She grabs her phone… and instantly she talks!!
Her language is all her own at this point, but I sense her joy. She is eager to tell whoever it is that she is talking to what she is up to! Her intonations are lively. She slams the phone down, only to pick it up again.
Oh if you could hear what I hear. I can’t wait to have those conversations with my girl. To know her heart. Her heart is so full, so wise, so kind.
She is a true conversationalist… and… a lover of books! Yay!
They are Irish… and they are so very close in age!
Just 14 1/2 months apart!
I am told they will be “friends for life,” so excited to see them grow into little buddies.
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him!” Psalm 127:3
My most beloved of all shoes got a run today.
Six years old… they have seen mile upon mile of prairie path and pavement.
Breathing in God’s fresh air this evening. Just me and Him… like old times.
Thank you God for this race to run with you. Keep me on pace… in step with my Maker.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with persereverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
This is a bit late… but better late than never!
My sweet babies are taking their afternoon nap, so I decided it was high time for some Dove dark chocolate and a little time reminiscing! Oh how I love to “look back!”
This 2014 was welcomed at my parent’s house as we also celebrated my mom’s “29th” birthday!
She never seems to age… the picture of health and youth!
The evening was fabulous… wine, duck with roasted vegetables… and for dessert I whipped up a delicious lemon mousse garnished with fresh blueberries! Check it out! (Super easy)
Here’s to 2014… may it be a year filled to the brim with every good and perfect gift from above!
